Tszyu vs Spark fight in Australia: Frustrated Tszyu shifts focus to ‘dangerous’ Steve Spark

A frustrated Tim Tszyu says he’s satisfied with the COVID-safety measures in place in Newcastle, and has now switched his focus from Michael Zerafa to Steve Spark next Wednesday.

Zerafa pulled out of his fight with Tszyu just seven days before they were scheduled to step into the ring, with Toowoomba’s Spark stepping in on late notice.

Zerafa’s camp cited fears around travelling from Melbourne to Newcastle, and the risk of having to quarantine in Melbourne after the fight as reasons for pulling out.

Speaking to media on Thursday, Tszyu – who was ringside for Spark’s win over Jack Brubaker in April – was in no mood to hear excuses, instead shifting his attention to the 12-1 Spark.

“I’ve got one bloke in my mind right now and in a week, we punch on,” he said.

“I watched him on the Gallen card – I was there. He’s talented and dangerous and coming in with that winning mentality. There’s nothing to lose.”

Tszyu rubbished fears Zerafa’s camp had about potentially having to quarantine in Melbourne after the fight.

“The boys did everything that they possibly can. There’s no COVID here in Newcastle, that’s what they’re all complaining about.

“Even if you had to quarantine back home…and what? This is our lives, this is what we do for a living.
